I Went to Canada to See the Aurora

note

This article has been translated by Gemini.

Actually, I’m still here… I have about 5 hours before heading to the airport, so I’m relaxing at our Airbnb.

Background
#

This served as our honeymoon. I hope we can go to at least one more country within next year.

Reason for Choosing Canada
#

I’ve wanted to see the aurora since I was in elementary school, so I narrowed down the options to “places where you can see the aurora”. Apparently there are other places like Norway, but I chose Canada because I wanted a place where English is definitely understood.

Yellowknife is the place where you can actually see auroras well and where there are tours.

Travel Schedule Overview
#

Plan for 12/25-12/31 (Arriving in Japan on 1/1).

  • 12/25 Night: Depart Narita, Arrive in Vancouver on 12/25 Morning.
  • 12/27 Early Morning: Depart Vancouver, arrive in Yellowknife in the afternoon via Edmonton.
  • 12/27, 12/28, 12/29 Nights: Aurora viewing.
  • 12/30: Full day sightseeing in Yellowknife.
  • 12/31 Early Morning: Depart Yellowknife, arrive at Narita via Vancouver on 1/1 Evening (Japan time).

Accommodation
#

We stayed at a total of 3 Airbnb locations. In Vancouver, we chose a place in a town called Marine Drive, which is a few stations from the airport. The location was very good, and above all, it was spacious and clean. There was a movie theater etc. within a 1-minute walk.

In Yellowknife, we booked a place about 10 minutes by car from the airport for the 27th and 28th, and for the 29th and 30th, a place in the area called Old Town. The first house was very large with several rooms and two other groups staying there. The kitchen was completely shared, and there were multiple showers and toilets.

I can provide more details about the accommodation individually, so please feel free to contact me if you’re interested!

Did we see the aurora?
#

Apparently, if you go for 3 days, there’s over a 90% chance of seeing it at least once. In our case, we were lucky and saw it all three nights!

I’ll finish by posting some aurora photos.

Later, I might introduce things I brought for the Canada trip in another article! (Or I might not)
