Looking Back on October 2018

This article was translated from Japanese by Claude Code.

2018 is now about 85% overキャ━━━━(#゚ロ゚#)━━━━ッ!! ※As of November 6 (Tuesday)

Let me quickly reflect on October.

What I Did in October

Android Weekend Revived
#

Around last year, I was hosting a low-key meetup event with a senior Android engineer from abroad at my company. We restarted it in October. (I presented about what AndroidX is.)

We used to say it would be great to hold it monthly, but as our teams changed and other things happened, we ended up going for months without hosting. But in October, we decided to restart it. A designer acquaintance even created a cool logo for us. Now it’s a small-scale meetup with at most around 10 people, where my senior engineer and I do LTs in English, and the rest is casual chat and networking.

It’s a relaxed, casual format to participate in, so please feel free to join if interested. (For event participation, check here.)

I especially recommend it for:

  • Those who want to expand their Android app development knowledge

  • Those who want to share their Android app development expertise

  • Those who want to practice English listening and speaking (Even if you don’t give an LT, just participating will help you practice a bit~)

Published an iOS / Android Book at Techbook Festival #5
#

Six iOS and Android app engineers from various departments who are part of the CyberAgent group worked together to write this book. I was happy we managed to sell out! This was my second time participating in Techbook Festival, and every time, I end up being chased by schedule. (During the kickoff meeting, I actually have plenty of time though~)

Last time I wrote about Okio, and this time I wrote about Picasso—its internal implementation and Picasso 3, which should be coming out soon.

I’m not sure if I’ll apply again next time, but if I do write again, I want to stick to the schedule this time ( *゚Д゚)・;’.、グハッ!!

Submitted a DroidKaigi 2019 Proposal
#

I submitted a proposal titled “Technical Strategy to Further Grow Your App (Reflection and What’s Next).” I’m currently tasked with leading the Android team (although still inexperienced). If accepted, I’d like to share what we’ve done in our Android team that we think might be good to try, what we’ve devised, and technical strategies we’ve decided as a division—basically simple knowledge sharing about how we do things.

Also, while this session won’t mainly focus on Android technology, if there are any technical efforts, decisions, or implementations within the Android team that have accelerated (or are accelerating) app growth and are worth sharing, I’d definitely love to share those.

  • Went on a trip to Chichibu

I climbed up a mountain on a bicycle from Seibu-Chichibu Station. I chose an electric bicycle. (Safe choice) I stopped at a nice café called Maple Base.

The French toast with maple syrup was absolutely delicious.

  • Moved

I used to live closer to Shinjuku, but moved to a more Shibuya-oriented area. I commute to work by walking now. Exercise! Recently at the office, I’ve also been conscious about using stairs to move around. I want muscles. (Wishful thinking.)

October was a month with a new fiscal period, with newly joined members making rapid improvements, the strategy team changing dramatically, and lots of changes happening.

In November, we’re planning Android Weekend on the 11th, and Matching Dev Meetup on the 14th—the first event gathering engineers from the matching industry like Eureka Inc. and Diverse Inc. This time it’s an iOS / Android event. If interested, please feel free to participate!
