What is DroidKaigi 2019?
#

It’s a conference for sharing technical information and communication about Android. It has been held every year since 2015, and in 2019, it was held for two days from February 7th to 8th.

Presentation Content
#

I spoke in a 50-minute slot for the first time with the title “Technical Strategy for Further Growing the App”.

The content mainly introduced the “Technical Strategy” our technical organization is performing with the goal of further growing the rapidly growing product I’m currently in charge of through technology, and sharing my personal reflections from there.

Preparation for the Talk
#

It was my first time creating materials with such emotional content. Because of that, it was a kind of challenge for me. When creating the presentation materials, I worried most about what kind of structure to use.

I wrote out the table of contents and things I wanted to convey, but once I started making the slides, I wondered “Is this flow easy to understand?”, and after writing out a certain amount, I suddenly became negative, thinking “Is anyone interested in this talk?”. Because of that, even after writing out the content I wanted to convey in a notepad, I spent a lot of time thinking about how to drop it into slides and whether it would be easier to understand if I talked about the premise to some extent.

The hurriedness of finishing it forcefully at the end (not ideal at all) was the same as before.

Reflection on the Day
#

As a reflection point, there were several times when I had to rephrase or couldn’t find the right word on the spot and stopped for about a second. (I apologize to everyone who came to listen and found it difficult to hear. 🙇‍♂️) I think this just comes down to a lack of time for practice… However, I want to take it positively that it was better than last year and that I have to keep gaining experience, and try not to get too depressed.

The good thing was that there were more people who resonated and gave reactions than I expected! After the talk, I was happier than anything to be able to talk about my presentation content with various people in the exhibition hall or on Twitter, through questions or conversations of resonance, more than last year.

Also, several engineers from the same company came to see me, which was encouraging at the presentation venue (honestly, I thought people from our company or group should listen to other people’s talks because it would be more beneficial!). Thank you very much 🙏

Gratitude

Every year, I can enjoy DroidKaigi like this thanks to the organizers. Thank you very much. and good work!!

P.S. In a sense, DroidKaigi starts now. I want to look back at the videos and materials and internalize everyone’s knowledge in my work and personal development.
